Are You Having Suicidal Thoughts?
Suicidal thoughts can happen at any age. Sometimes they arise during an obvious crisis. Sometimes they seem to come from nowhere or a series of events. And if this is happening to you, you will not be alone – I have spoken to hundreds in the same place.
You may want the pain, pressure, fear, or exhaustion to stop without being sure that you want to die.
And just because those thoughts are there, doesn’t mean it is going to happen.
Will I be sent to the hospital?
Not simply because you are having suicidal thoughts. Many people have had suicidal thoughts and haven’t been hospitalized. I will listen, ask direct questions, and work with you to understand what you need. My aim is to preserve as much choice as possible while taking your safety seriously.
If you are in immediate danger or cannot keep yourself safe, additional care may be necessary. Whenever possible, we will discuss the options together and use the least restrictive care that can reasonably support your safety.
Why reach out early?
The earlier we talk, the more choices we are likely to have.
You do not need to wait until the thoughts become unbearable and an emergency. Reaching out early gives us time to understand what is keeping the distress going, strengthen your support, and develop a practical plan for difficult moments.
What happens in therapy?
We begin with a conversation.
I will ask about the thoughts, whether they are changing, and what has helped you remain safe. These questions are not intended to trap you. They help us understand what support you need.
Our work may include strengthening safety, recognizing when risk is increasing, and addressing the experiences contributing to the suicidal thoughts.
When is more care needed?
More immediate care may be needed if you cannot remain safe with the support available.
More care does not always mean hospitalization. It may include additional appointments, a crisis or psychiatric assessment, an intensive outpatient program, or emergency care.
How do I begin?
You can call or you can schedule directly online. You do not need to explain everything before we meet.

When possible, move away from anything you might use to harm yourself and ask someone you trust to stay with you while you seek help.
